Annandale's Shopping Success
Annandale
Design, one of Scotland's leading manufacturers and installers of architectural
metalwork, has recently completed the first part of Phase 2 of a contract
worth over £200,000 with one of the UK's leading department stores.
The
Kilmarnock-based firm has designed, manufactured and installed the structural
glazed balustrading around the escalator voids of the Edinburgh branch
of John Lewis. The balustrading comprises 19mm thick clear, toughened
and heat soaked glass panels. A bespoke profiled cladding, designed
by Annandale and manufactured from a stainless steel sheet with a satin
polished finish, conceals the balustrading support structure.
Annandale has also designed, manufactured and installed structural steelwork
in the proposed new food court of the store, demonstrating the company's
flexibility with steelwork. The work includes a new suspended floor
slab to fill existing floor voids, structural steel to support the escalators
and a new plant deck.
Allan
Frew, Managing Director of Annandale, said: "This has been quite a challenging
project to work on as you would expect from one of the leading UK retailers
that pride themselves on quality and customer service. Obviously John
Lewis cannot close completely while we do the work, so we worked in
an isolated area during the day and we installed the steelwork on a
fast track programme of five nights."
The
finishing touch to the project was the maple handrail which was fitted
and the bespoke profile cladding to the base of the structural glazed
balustrading.
Allan
explained: "Our experience and expertise in architectural metalwork
and glazed balustrading is unrivalled in the market, however many projects
today incorporate timber handrails which we can offer through our preferred
partners, which are carefully selected to ensure that our quality and
service levels are maintained at all times."
Allan
finished: "I'm delighted that we have successfully completed this project
for John Lewis. The department store is unarguably one of the best in
the UK, so it follows that only the best companies will be chosen to
work for it."
